Game Ideas

The game Im thinking of is going to based on the british boy band, One direction.
I want the game to have 5 levels, each level will be based on one of the five boys from the band, Niall, Harry, Liam, Louis and Zayn.
I want the levels to have questions about each one of the boys, but Inorder to select an answer to the question, I want the consumer to have to move the character (which would be one of the boys) to the answer.
For example look at the image above.

Another Idea I had was something similar to just dance. Its when the console tells the user to press a specific button (left arrow, up arrow, down arrow or right arrow) and then the sprite will change costume to follow the buttons direction and start to dance.
So far I have been investigating with rough sprites to see how I need the scripts to be for the game to work. I have found out how my arrow sprite appears onto the screen for a specific time limit and with a red dot (as an example) for the arrows to break and so the costumer will know if the, for example, down arrow is shown twice.

Surprise button: Tutorial Six

When you click sprite2, which is the carpet, it changes colour by the quantity of 25, colours are sorted by numbers so as the quantity is 25, the change of colour is going to be more noticable that something with the quantity of 2.
Then once the colour has changed a random picked drum sound will play for 0.2 beats. Once again there would be a change of colour after a sound is played. This process has no repetition so it would only start again when you click the carpet again.

Colour Change: Tutorial Five

I have edited the snowman sprite so that when the space button is pressed it will change colour.

Also I have created the code/scripted to comand the snowman and the game that when the space bar is pressed the snowman will change into the costumes I had made earlier.

Moving Animation: Tutorial Four

First to complete this tutorial I must create a different costume for my sprite which is a plane. So that when the plane moves, something will change with it. Inorder to do this, I pressed the sprite and went into the costumes, i pressed coppy and then edit to add the wind effect which I dress myself onto the plane.
Then I added the code so that after 0.3 seconds the plane will move 5 steps in the direction it is facing then change the costume and it will continuously do the same thing. Moving 5 steps and changing the costume of the sprite.

Move to A Beat: Tutorial Three

For this game the instructions "move 30 steps" makes the sprite move to the right and then when it says "move -30 steps" moves the sprite to the left. Also the purple insturctions allow music to play when the sprite has moved the specific steps, or direction.

Key moves: Tutorial Two

When it says "when ..... key pressed" you are able to select any letter, space, or the arrows and in this case I have used to arrows so when playing the game, the control is to only use the arrows. Also when you press one of the arrows depending on which one, the dirtection of the ball will move in the direction needed; eg: down arrow, will move 180 degrees.

Keep Score: Tutorial One

In order to complete the tutorial I needed to change the sprite from the cat to a shark. To complete this step I pressed "Choose new sprit from file" which opened a file with many sprites, so I then found the sprite needed. Also I had to add another sprite for the purpose of the game to work, and the shark sprite follows the next sprite which will be a small fish.

I then had to change the background/stage of the game so it seems more realistic and more attractive to the consumer when I create my own game. Inorder to do this I clicked "Backgroud" then "import" and found an appropriate stage to suit the game.
Now to allow the sprite to move and complete the necessary moves for the game to word, I must create a code/script for that particular sprite. For the shark I need it to have a score, so when It eats a small fish, a point is given. Also it needs to move 3 steps and point towards the small fish so it is easier to eat the fish.
Also I need to create a script for the small fish so that when the shark eats it, it will change costumes and dissapear.
This is the final game.

Flowchart

Questions on Flowcharts

  1. For each of the flowcharts below describe in words what you think they will do.

When you read the temp you will see whether  it is less than 32 degrees if yes, then it is below freezing point, if no it then is above freezing point. After the decision is made the steps are complete.

If the switch is on the light turns on and the timer will start, but if not then the task can not commence. Once one second has expiered the light should turn off, but if one second has not passed then the light will not turn on. Once the light has turned of the timer will reset and the task will be complete.

Then you can use word to answer the following question.

  1. Convert one of the algorithms you have created in the previous task into a flowchart, e.g.  opening a door, moving through a traffic light.

“Computers never do what you want them to do,

“Computers never do what you want them to do,

they only do what you tell them to!”

Using the web, find definitions for the following terms and post them on your blog. Make sure the definitions relate to computers and programming
1.       Algorithms
Its is a step by step instruction Manuel that you tell the computer to write a computer program. The computer will follow each step Manuel to achieve the goal. Can be used in computer programming.

2.       Pseudocode
Pseudo means ‘like’ something, not the real thing but similar to it. Tools used by programs to describe an algorithm. It contains standard words but it is not code or understand by a computer.  for example. Begin, end etc.

3.       Machine Language
Is code for an algorithm written in a low level language that only the computer understands. Eg: doesn’t have English words in it.

4.       High Level Computer Language
A high level computer language contain regular words like : if, then etc.

5.       Flowchart
Is another way of writing an algorithm though using a diagram. It uses a standard symbol. EG: a diamond

6.       Sequence
The order in which steps are carried out.

7.       Selection
Selection in an algorithm is when you have to make a choice and is between two items. Most selections are set up to ask a yes no question.

8.       Repetition
Having to repeat a step again and again until a goal is achived or a condition is met. Eg, walking, lift your right leg, move it forward

Then with the aid of class discussions, write an algorithm for the following processes;

1.       opening a door and entering a room.

2.       Negotiating traffic lights as you drive down a street.

·         Is the light green?

·         If yes, continue driving.

·          If not, is the light red?

·         If yes, stop.

·         If not then slow down.

In your algorithm write each step of the process on a new line. Remember not to assume the computer knows anything.

What Was Done For the Assignment

For this assignment we have recieved we must create 3 different websites that include artworks which have  been made by the year 10 art class.
My partner which I am currently working with for this particular assignment is Adriana.

What we have done to complete this assignment:
Janet (me): I have created each different site for the students artworks and have named them/created a URL for them.
Title of the sites: Celine's creation             URL: https://sites.google.com/site/theartofceline/

                          :  Doris' creation                       : https://sites.google.com/site/theartofdoris/

                          : Taylor's creation                     : https://sites.google.com/site/theeartoftaylor/
For two three sites I had chosen the background image in which would be on the site.
Once the website was complete with the final editing I had done, I registered the site onto the school website so my teacher can access the website too with the URL.

Adriana: She has added all the pictures needed for the site, the pictures are of the artoworks the year 10 students have created. Adriana has also linked the pictures so when you click on the image it opens in a new page and the image becomes larger.
Adriana also had helped me place the background image onto the website.

Video

Story Board

I created the story board which has been uploaded onto slide share and can be viewed when clicking this link
http://www.slideshare.net/xxjanetxx/smartphones-and-how-to-install-applications

Process

What was done every day?
1/6/12
Today we got an assignment which required us to produce a video of around 5 minutes in duration. The video may be on one of the topics listed below. Successfully completing this task will require your group to create and edit video and audio files and to publish the finished product in an appropriate format. This task will ideally be done in groups of three.
We also had to pick groups and in my group I have Adriana Zeidan. We had chosen the topic "What are Smartphone apps and how to install"

7/6/12
Today Adriana and I did research on our topic, finding out what are smartphones and some features of a smartphone.
Here are just a few of the websites we used:

  • http://www.vodafone.com.au/personal/mobile-internet/mobile-internet-basics/what-is-a-smartphone/index.htm
  • http://cellphones.about.com/od/glossary/g/smart_defined.htm
13/6/12
Today we started on the story board and the script.  Here you can view our story board:

http://www.slideshare.net/xxjanetxx/smartphones-and-how-to-install-applications

Also we made the script:
A Smartphone is a device that allows the owner to make phone calls to other phones, It’s like another phone you find, but they also add features. They add features that you might find on a personal computer. A Smartphone also offers the ability to send and receive e-mail and edit Office documents.
Apps are applications which can be used on Smartphones and have been intended to make life easier. The majority of mobile phones, nowadays, are smartphones which have access to these applications. Applications are developed for personal and professional use, there are a variety of apps which can be installed onto the Smartphone’s, such as things ranging from education, business, media, games, etc.
Applications can connect to the internet to perform functions which were originally only made for computers and laptops. Some Smartphone’s start off with the basic apps already installed on them, such as; Web browsing, emailing and accessing phone settings. Even tho there are apps already installed onto the phone, this doesn’t mean the consumer cannot install other apps that they desire, they can install any application on their phone for either a small fee or no price at all, and this is how:

When installing applications onto the smartphone, for apple, the consumer must be aware  that it is necessary to have availability to wifi, and when installing applications the consumer is taking up data from the phone. Before being able to install applications the user must have an apple account which has credit-card details and personal information.
First you must open the app store on the iphone.
Then you have different options on which application to install. You can either pick from featured, categories, top 25 or search. You may be wondering what the updates is for. It is used when you want to renew apps which you have already installed so they become better applications.
For example we could install something from the top 25. Press it.
Then click “top free” so you don't need to pay.
Now decide on what application you would like to install and press it.
Once you have opened it, press “free” “install app” and at this point you will need to put your account email and password.
Insert your details and you have now successfully installed an application.

18/6/12
Today we started drawing the little components which were to be included in the video. And then a few days later we started filming the video.

25-26/6/12
I edited the video adding music and sound to it.

Synopsis

The video explains to the viewer what a smartphone is and the special features the phone contains. It also teaches the viewer how to install applications, also known as apps, onto the smartphone. We have explained how to install them by easy step by step instructions. The video is aimed at teenagers and young adults, as well as people who want an idea on what smartphones are and how to install.

Introduction to video notes

Introduction to video notes

1.    What are some advantages of digital video
Digital video is the single most dominant form of live video and image capturing. Its capable of transforming the brightness of the light in a digital signal. To make a photo would not only increase the quality but also the quantity.

2.    What is meant by frame rate in video
Frame rates in videos refer to the speed at which the image is refreshed (typically in frams per second; FPS)

3.    Are all videos/movies the same frame rate, explain your answer
No because not all videaos and movies have the same frame rates. An example would be if someone was running a marathon there would be lots of movement there fore there would be a lower frame rate and would have an effect on quality. But if someone was reading a book there would be little movement and would no have a major effect on quality. The frame rate depends on what is being filmed and the movements/ actions which are being done.

4.    What is meant by resolution, how is it measured.
Resolution is the term used to describe the number of dots, or pixels, used to display an image.
Higher resolutions mean that more pixels are used to create the image. When a monitor's resolution is described, the description generally consists of the number of dots (pixels) contained in each line followed by the number of lines on the monitor. The number of dots per line can be multiplied by the number of lines to identify the total number of pixels displayed by the monitor.
5.    What is the colour system called RGB
The RGB color model is an additive color model in which red, green, and blue light is added together in various ways to reproduce a broad array of colors.6.    Explain the video standards PAL, NTSC, and SECAM, what are the main differences between them.
PAL- (Phase Alternating Line) is the format for the UK and most European countries, except France.
NTSC- (National Television System Committee) is used in North American, Japan, and most of the countires in South America
SECAM- (Séquentiel Couleur à Mémoire—Sequential Color with Memory) Parts of Easter Europe use it.

7.    Which standard do we use in Australia?
the standard commonly used in Australia is PAL

8.    What is an IEEE 1394 port
Its also known as FireWire, its a component originated from Apple which, like a USB, allows the connection of peripherals to a computer, such as video cameras. However, there is one distinct difference. IEEE 1394 supports much higher bandwidth than USB, allowing you to get feed from a high-resolution video camera onto a computer without experiencing issues.
9.    Why do digital video cameras use video compression
Difital video camera's use video compression because once a videao signal is digital, it needs a large amount of storage space and transmission badwidth. Video compression reduces the amount of sata, several strategies are employed that compress the information. It does this without affecting the quality of the image.

10. Describe what a codec is.
It is a microchip that compresses or decompresses data.
11. What is meant by “generation loss”, where does it happen?
Generation loss refers to the loss of quality and potential increase of file size between subsequent copies of data. This occurs with old technology, and sometimes when trying to burn a video from an old camera, each time the video is burnt, the quality becomes weaker and weaker, generation loss.

Making sound

1. Sound moves through what medium?

Liquid?

2. Briefly describe how a microphone works, in particular what does it gather and what does it produce?
A microphone has small membrane that vibrates, it also has a mchanism that translates moovements of the membrane into electrical signals. When acoustical waves are translated into electrical waves by the micrphone. The higher the pressure the higher voltage, the lower the pressure the lower the voltage.
3. What unit is used to measure sample size?
 Measured in bits.
4. What unit is used to measure sampling rate?
 Measured in Hertz (Hz).
5. How does sound quality vary with sample size and sample rate.
If sample size is increased, the quality increases.
increase sample rate it also increase the sample quality.
6. What is another name for sample size?
 Sample format.
7. From the information given which offers better quality sound, FM radio or AM radio?
FM radio has better quality sound.
8. Why not record all sound in extremely hight sample sizes and sample rates?
To much memory and space would be taken up.

Ringtone

My Ringtone made on Audacity.

I have made this ring tone on the computer program, Audacity. First i downloaded the song 'Another world' by one direction and when they say 'Hi we're one direction'.
The i added the sounds to the program and trimmed the parts i didnt want, i did that by selecting what i wanted to trim then went to 'edit' and 'trim'.
I then selected the end part of the song 'Another world' and went to 'effect' and 'base boost' to add a strong base to that section.
Then i selected both the song itself and when the boys talk and made the pitch of their voices high by; clicking 'effect' and 'change pitch'.
Once I had finished creating the ringtone, i saved it. To upload it on my blog i needed to make it a movie so I went onto movie maker uploaded three pictures onto movie maker that realated to One direction and their song 'Another world' and placed the ringtone i created onto it.
I then had to save the movie by clicking 'save movie' then 'forcomputer'.

The person develops applications specifically made for the world wide web. The applications made generally use a server and a client.

  1. Where would you see this person’s work (e.g. in the newspaper, in a game shop)?
They can work at home on their computer, anywhere there is access to internet and access to the computer programs needed for their job.

  1. What training is needed for the career?
They need to have formal education and training. BSCS is a common  position needed to become a Web Developer, also trainning in specific languages is very common. A great way to start Web Development is to have internships and contract positions also developing small components or pieces of web applications.
         4. What kind of software and hardware is used?
html editors, graphic softwares, flash, flash animation software.

    Video game development
    1. What does the person in the career do?
Creates video games by using skills to create the best game you can, under given circumstances. It should be targeted for the platform, genre and the audience.

    2. Where would you see this person’s work (e.g. in the newspaper, in a game shop)?
This person can either work at home or in an office/ company. They can work as a single person or a large business.

    Questions and Answers

     1) Describe what software you used and why you chose it.
The computer software I used to complete my animation was Inkscape and Movie Maker. I used Movie Maker because it allowed to make frames per second. I used Inkscape because it creats victor images which allows you to move different parts of an image, without moving the whole image e.g. if I created a image on Inkscape of a person and want to move its hand I can just click on the hand and drag it without his whole body moving with the arm. Then we save frames as bitmap images as we want to save the whole image not just one section. Also when you want to zoom into the picture it doesnt become pixalated,  unlike some programs such as paint, this is again because Inkscape makes victor images and recognises images as shapes and figures and paint is bitmap images and doesnt recognise images.

    2) Describe the creation process you followed.
          1. Open Inkscape and make the background colour a solid colour and fix the size of the canvas to 400 x 400 pixels.
          2. Draw the characters or objects that you would use to create your animation; draw them on Inkscape. Then fill them and colour them
          3. Export each movement made as a bitmap image.
          4. Place all bitmap images (frames) in Movie Maker software
          5. Change the duration of the frames to whatever time you want that frame to last for.

    3) What image format were you saving your work in during development of the frames?
I was saving my work as the image format, svg.

    4) What image format did you save your frames as?
The image format I was saving my frames under was called, png.

    5)  What frame rate were you aiming for?
I was aiming for 30 frames persecond as 30 fps is a good rate and 15 fps is what I wasnt aiming for as it is a bad rate.
    6) What is the final size of your animation in Mb?
The final size of my animation is 1.19 Mb.
    7)  What difficulties did you encounter and how did you overcome them?
During th process of making my animation I didnt overcome any problems or difficulties. I had enough time to create my animation, the program never played up on me or randomly shutdown. Inever had trouble saving my work or finding my files, I was up to date with everything and constantly saved my work, infact I did a little extra with my animation and added sounf affects. I really enjoyed making my animation and my final product runs smoothly and im very proud of what I have created.

    Process of making my Animation

    16/3/12
Today I decided on what my animation was going to be about. I was going to use a few images from google and re-draw them changing a few features. My animation was going to be about One Direction, consisting of the band members; Louis, Niall and Harry.
The images i was going to use to help me draw the characters are:

    17/3/12
Today I started drawing my first character Louis. On the left you can see the image I drew myself on Inkscape. On the right I have proved that I drew it myself on Inkscape by showing the nodes on the carrot. I saved this character in a seperate Inscape file called 'Louis'.

    18/3/12
Today I started creating my other two characters; Harry and Niall and also a small carrot. The picture on the left shows the image I drew on Inkscape. The image on the right shows the nodes on both characters to prove that I drew the image myself on Inkscape. I saved these character in a different Inkscape file called 'Harry and Niall'.

    19/3/12
Today I exported bitmap images to create my final animation which would move. I started of by going to 'Document Properties' to make the background not transparent, so I made the background colour grey. I also set the size of my canvas to 10cm by 10cm.

Then I placed my character (the carrot one) onto the background and used the text tool to write the letter 'Z' to represent snoring, as the character is sleeping. I exported a few bitmap images of the letter 'Z' appering on the screen one by one.

    20/3/12
Today I added speach bubbles to create the illusion that the character is dreaming. To prove that I have created the cloud on the left using Inkscape, you can see on the left the cloud and on the right you can see  the nodes of the cloud. I exported a few bitmap images of the clouds growing larger and larger, one by one.

    21/3/12
Today I placed my two characters, Niall and Harry, into the largest cloud/bubble. I then exported bitmap images of Niall and Harry moving back and forth so it looks like they are fighting over the carrot they are holding. (The carrot is actually Louis')

    22/3/12
Today I made the carrot, which Harry and Niall are holding,  grow bigger and bigger and so then it finally explodes. Just before the carrot explodes I changed the facial expressions of both Harry and Niall to a shocked face as they dont know why the carrot is growing larger. While I was creating all this I was also exporting the images.
To show that the carrot has exploded I created a 'Boom' sign using the Inkscape tool called 'Bezier Tool'. To prove I created the image on Inscape you can see the 'Boom sign on the left and the nodes on the image on the right.

    23/3/12
Today I created facial expressions for Harry and Niall for when the carrot exploads. When I created them I exported bitmap images of their facial expression changing. Then I made Louis open his eyes and have red cheeks as he is shocked that his carrot has exploded, but then I make his eyes look down to his carrot, then he realizes it was all a dream. Then the clouds/bubbles disappear the screen, one by one. All this has been exported in bitmap images.

    24/3/12
I created a series of bitmap images today of Louis' hand moving back and forth, showing affection to his carrot. I then used the 'Text' tool to type in the word 'My Carrot!!' The entered the screen one by one in different colours, to do this I exported the first letter as a bitmap image then added on each letter seperatly continuing to export the images as a bitmap image.

    25/3/12
Today I 'zoomed in' to Louis. But what I really did was make Louis just a little larger and exported a bitmap image then i make him larger making him more to the center, then exported the image as a bitmap image, and done that untill Louis was as large as the screen/canvas.

    26/2/12
I created, using Inkscape, the symbol for One Direction. To prove that I have drawn this picture myself using Inkscape, you can see the image on the left is the 1D symbol and on the right you can see the nodes on the number 1.

later today I made the 1D symbol, I created earlier, grow larger in-front of Louis. I did this by using the same 'technique' I used to make Louis larger (zoom in).

    27/3/12
Today I used all my Bitmap images and created my animation by placing those images in a program called 'Movie Maker' I made each frame have different duration between 0.03-o.40
I thought I would just be a little different and work ahead of the class and add sound to my animation, so I found snoring sounds, a boom sound and One direction saying 'Hi, we are One Direction'.
